Wayne grew up in Helena working on his family’s farm and at his family’s hatchery.  He graduated from Helena High School in 1953, then attended Okmulgee Tech and Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University).  He married Frances Luscombe, also of Helena, on September 3, 1955.  The couple made their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a short time where Wayne was employed by Sandia Corporation.  They returned to Enid where Wayne worked for IBM as a service engineer for 35 years.  During the 1980s he and his family owned and operated a local sports store, “The Cross Court Tennis and Ski Shop”.  After retiring from IBM he worked for Enid Public Schools, then Hennessey Public Schools in their respective technology departments.

Wayne loved the sport of tennis.  He began playing in high school and he and Fran played tournaments and were active in Enid Team Tennis organizations.  He also coached his son’s little league sports teams.  He was an avid supporter and fan of his daughters and granddaughters music recitals and theatre performances.  Wayne enjoyed weekly card games of hearts with friends from his Sooner Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church.  Anyone who knew Wayne knew that his storytelling skills were legendary.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Madeline Galer of Helena.
