Walter Mcneil

Walter Patrick “Pat” McNeil, 73, passed away suddenly at 10:18 P.M., Sunday, December 29, 2019, from chronic medical issues in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Walter was born June 25, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, where he spent most of his life before moving to Cherokee, Oklahoma to be near family, particularly his grandchildren, whom he adored.

Walter spent his adult life working in the public safety field, particularly the fire and emergency medical services, a passion he inherited from his father and brothers, who all served as fire fighters. During his career, Walter held numerous positions including firefighter, engineer, paramedic and arson investigator before retiring as Fire Chief of the Markham, Illinois Fire Department.

Walter is survived by his children, Ryan (Heather) McNeil of Cherokee, Oklahoma, Jeremy McNeil of Cherokee, Oklahoma, Molly (Jack) Kennerk of Clarkston, Michigan, and Bridget (Chris) Jelkes of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Christopher (Jenna) McNeil of Tacoma, Washington, Krystal McNeil of Manhattan, Kansas, and Jalen Jelkes of Chicago, Illinois; four great grandchildren, Cavin Horn, Aubrey Horn, Jacob Horn, and Mia Doyal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Roberta McNeil; daughter, Katie Eileen McNeil; his parents; grandparents; five brothers, and grandson, David McNeil.

A funeral mass for Walter will be held at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Cherokee, Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020 with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. There will be no burial at this time.  www.lanmanmemorials.com  Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
