Viva Alma Barnes Bowers was born on March 10, 1928, to Martin V. and Lillie A. Barnes, on the family farm, in Major County, Oklahoma. She received her schooling from Waynoka High School. She passed away in the early hours of March 21, 2022.
She married William (Bill) Joseph Bowers on February 6, 1946. To this union seven children were born. Viva and Bill spent most of their lives living on a farm near the Cimarron River, in Waynoka and later moved to a small farm west of Ringwood. After the passing of Bill, Viva moved to Helena to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Viva is survived by children: daughter, Connie Schroeder, daughter, Beverley Wallace and husband, Neal, daughter Verna Judd and husband, Ron, daughter, Cynthia McCollum and husband, Tracy, and son, Michael Bowers and wife, Debbie; siblings: brother, Vernon Barnes and wife, Sharon, sister, Darlene Shelite, and sister, Lavina Randall; grandchildren: grandson, Clint Bishard and wife, Robyn, granddaughter, Makayla Redding, granddaughter, Heather Atchley, granddaughter, Jennifer Bowers, grandson, Derick Bowers and wife, Alyssa, grandson, Logan Judd and wife, Jennifer, grandson, Mitchell Judd and wife, Patsy, grandson Nick Judd and wife, Whitney, granddaughter, Lindsey Olson and husband, Derek, granddaughter, Kacie Earl and husband, Jeremy, grandson, Garrett Bowers and wife, Kendra, granddaughter, Shana Neilson and husband, Justin, grandson, Jake Bowers and grandson, Dylan Bowers and wife, Tairryn. She is also survived by thirty great grandchildren; nephews; nieces, and friends.
Viva was a spunky and energetic mom and grandmother. She could be found at sporting events where she enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. Viva had a love for country music and a lot of rhythm in her two step
She is preceded in death by husband, William (Bill) Joseph Bowers; daughter, Shirley Anne Bowers; son, William (Bill) Bruce Bowers; parents, Martin and Lillie Alma Barnes; twin sister, Violet Seiger; grandson, Douglas Bishard, and great granddaughter, Miranda Bishard. She will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral service for Viva will be Monday, March 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Waynoka Church of Christ. Burial will be in Waynoka Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.
