Virginia was born on August 4, 1917 on the family farm in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma. She was the third child of Albert and Elizabeth Gillig Vogel. She attended the Friendship country school and graduated from Kiowa High School and Arkansas City Junior College. At college she met her husband, Kenneth Curfman. They married December 29, 1940. They had 6 children. The family lived many years in Wichita where Virginia was a busy homemaker. After Kenneth died in 1961, she found herself as a single mom raising 6 kids. She worked for a couple of years at the Wichita University library and then worked for AAA Travel Club as a travel consultant/manager until her retirement. In Wichita, Virginia enjoyed playing bridge, antiquing and was involved with the Women's Aeronautical Society. In 1970 she reconnected with an old friend from high school, Bill Scott. They married, lived in Wichita until her retirement from AAA , and then moved back to their home town, Kiowa, Kansas. In Kiowa, Virginia was a member/volunteer of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Kiowa General Store, the Delphi Club, the Historical Society and the library. She enjoyed all the local school activities, Kiowa's Labor Day celebration, mixed league bowling and the Community Theater. All who knew Virginia appreciated her warm, caring smile. She was very gentle and selfless, but certainly, with the Lord's help, survived and toughed out some trying times. Nothing brightened her day like the innocence and energy of children. Virginia and her family were blessed over the last several years by the loving care she received by all the staff at the Kiowa Manor.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, John; her other siblings, Marguerite Brown, Albert Vogel, Richard Vogel and Bernice Spicer.
She is survived by her children, Kay (Dale) Wealand, Larry (Lesle) Curfman, Bruce (Barbara) Curfman, Rex Curfman, Byron Curfman, and Chuck Curfman; her stepchildren, John Scott, Pat Scott, and Kim Kanne; sixteen grandchildren; seven step grandchildren ;twenty one great grandchildren; eighteen step great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
