Wakita-Burial for Virginia will be June 20, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Wakita Cemetery. Celebration of life service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Wakita Christian Church.
She departed this life on Thursday, June 16, 2016 in Wakita. Virginia Arnett Hern was born February 17, 1930, to Riley and Florine Stormont in Dwight Mission. She graduated from Wakita High School in 1948 and continued her education at Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa and Oklahoma A&M, Stillwater. She married Clayton Hern on August 19, 1950 in Enid. They had three children: Rodney, Becky and Ann. She was devoted to helping Clayton on the farm while they raised a family. She loved all animals and never grew tired of taking care of them (cats, dogs, lambs and turkeys).
She was known for her great basketball skills in high school and enjoyed being coached by her father. She later became an avid "vocal coach" supporter in the stands. Virginia worked at the Wakita Community Health Center from 1970 to 1988 as the Dietary Manager. She was an active member of the Goodwill Extension Homemakers Group and enjoyed preparing entries for the County Fair, receiving many ribbons throughout the years. She was a member of Wakita Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and two sisters, Gelene and Doris.
Survivors include her brother, David Stormont and wife, Lorna of Emporia, Kansas; children, Rodney Hern and wife, Pat of Wakita, Becky Hollander and husband, Jim of Cache, Ann Frisbie and husband, George of Minco; grandchildren, Shawn Hern and wife, Caitlin of Park City, Kansas, Dan Hern and wife, Shara of Tampa, Florida, Clay Hollander and wife, Gina of Lawton, Jon Hollander of Lawton, Eric Frisbie and wife, Erica of Spring, Texas and Megan Frisbie of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Lanie, Callen and Brecken Hern of Park City, Kansas and Kingsley and Asher Hern of Tampa, Florida and many other family and friends.
Memorials may be given to Wakita Christian Church, Wakita Community Health Center, or Hospice Circle of Love through Lanman Funeral Home, 108 W. Cherokee Street or PO Box 280, Medford, Oklahoma 73759.
