Viola “Vi” Friesen was born March 8, 1924 in Meno, the daughter of Tobias and Minnie Unruh. She continued living in Meno and later moved to the Enid area. After she and John Friesen were married February 12, 1942, they moved to Medford where she had lived for 70 plus years. She and John had one daughter, Janice.
Vi was an active member of various clubs and organizations through the years. She always kept a neat house and enjoyed quilting in her younger years. As time passed crocheting became a new hobby. She attended the Medford Nazarene Church. She loved to cook and always had a new dish at family dinners. One of her specialties was angel food cake with cooked brown sugar icing.
Those who have preceded her in death are her husband, John Friesen; her daughter, Janice Eshelman; one sister, Phyllis Dixon; two brothers, Elmer Unruh and Edwin Unruh and her parents, Tobias and Minnie Unruh.
Those left to cherish her memory are her grandson, Marty Eshelman and his wife, Michelle; three great-grandchildren, Shelby Heim, Toby Eshelman and Josey Eshelman; one sister, Lily Dunn; five brothers, Bob Unruh, Les Unruh, Claude Unruh, Gerald Unruh and Bill Unruh as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Medford Nazarene Church with Pastor Kathy Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery near Enid at 1:00 p. m. Viewing will be Sunday 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Nazarene Church through the funeral home.
