Senoia, Georgia-Funeral service for Teresa Jo Wessels, wife of Gerald Wessels, former Cherokee resident, were held Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Cherokee.
Teresa was born the youngest of five to Clarence and Mildred Olivier in Harper, Kansas, on February 25, 1955. She moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma, in the fourth grade, and became a follower of Christ at the age of eleven. Cherokee is where she participated in the Upper Room Singers, which strengthened her faith for her lifetime. It was in Cherokee where she later married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Wessels, Jr. at the First Christian Church. The two went to NWOSU in Alva where she earned her degree in elementary education. She then spent the first few years of marriage in Granbury, Texas, teaching while her husband attended seminary. They moved to El Reno, Oklahoma, where Teresa was a full time mom while Gerald pastored at Amity Baptist Church. The two later moved to Colorado where in addition to being a pastor's wife, Teresa taught elementary school and later worked at the American Gelbvieh Association. Last year, Gerald and Teresa relocated to Senoia, Georgia, where she joined New Hope Baptist Church. She left to meet her Savior on November, 7, 2013, after a longtime, valiant battle with cancer. Throughout her battle, she maintained a deep dedication to her Lord and an unwavering faith. She loved God Almighty with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength, and is sure to be enjoying worshipping with the angels.
While on earth, Teresa had a deep love of family. She was a loving wife for thirty-eight years. She loved being a Mom and even more so, a Grandma. Her grand kids were her world, to whom she was known as Memaw. She was a wonderful gem, always full of joy with a beautiful smile, especially when she got the opportunity to see her dolphins. She inspired the lives of man.
