LINCOLN, NEBRASKA-Formerly of Hazelton, Kansas- Steve Alexander was born on August 4, 1966 and passed away on May 3, 2013 of complications from diabetes at the age of 46 years and 9 months. He grew up on a farm southeast of Hazelton, Kansas in Barber County. As a child he attended the Community Baptist Church in Hazelton and was a member of the Golden Rule 4-H Club in Corwin. Some of his projects were showing sheep and finding rocks and minerals for his geology project. He won champion and reserve champion for his Suffolk and dorset sheep. One of his lambs escaped when unloading and ran off in the dark, rainy night and ended up in the middle of Hargis Lake. He was found the next morning a mile north in our neighbors shed. He attended school K-12 at South Barber in Kiowa and graduated with the class of 1984. He was active in sports, playing tennis and was the manager for the basketball and football teams. His talents included music, playing trumpet in the band. He loved drawing. He drew and carved angels and cartoon characters. He was naturally mechanically inclined, he built a beautiful oak roll top desk in industrial arts class. His first job, besides working on the farm, was with Sherman Cornelson at his auto repair shop in Kiowa. He worked for several farmers and ranchers in the area. While living in Alva, Oklahoma his daughter, Destiny Nicole was born on March 17, 1994. He loved her very much. Later he moved to Colorado Springs where he worked at numerous construction related jobs. He loved the mountains. In January 2007, he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where his job consisted of operating large equipment. While there he made many friends who will miss him dearly, as will his family and the many friends who have known him throughout his life. He was a father and granddad to the family where he lived.
He is survived by his parents, Marilyn and Dean Alexander of Hazelton; one sister, Kelley Alexander of Winfield; daughter, Destiny of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Graveside service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, May 10, 2013 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hazelton, Kansas. Memories will be shared at the Owls Senior Center in Hazelton immediately following the burial for family and friends. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the 1st Baptist Church in Medicine Lodge. Visitation will be Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm with the family present from 5-7 to receive friends.
