Sherry Cotten

June 25, 1951 — December 8, 2017

Sherry Ann Taylor Cotten of Ringwood was born in Fairview June 25, 1951 to Dean and Elizabeth Taylor. She departed this life at the age of 66 after a short illness December 8, 2017 in Oklahoma City.

Sherry graduated from Ringwood High School with the Class of 1969. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Sociology from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1991, also winning the T.C. Carter Award for having the highest grade point average (4.0) of her class.

She married David L. Cotten of Pawhuska, OK on the San Antonio River Walk May 4, 1976. They enjoyed 41 happy years of marriage, celebrating their 40th Anniversary with a trip to Hawaii.

Sherry was co-owner of D & D Ceramics in Claremore from 1971 – 1973 with her Aunt Yvonne Dillon. She managed Printing Design from 1973 – 1976 in Alva. She began her Social Work career as an art instructor at the Helena State School for Boys, then transferred with Dave in 1980 to the Oklahoma Juvenile Treatment Center in Tecumseh. She retired as the Director of the Enid Boys Group Home to care for her ageing parents.

Sherry was passionate about her family and friends. She enjoyed the great outdoors, planting, gardening, and landscaping. She had a lifetime of boating and skiing and enjoying all things formed by God’s hand. Dave & Sherry were both talented artists, and they created many works of art from many mediums.

Sherry and Dave nurtured many deep lasting friendships, listed alphabetically as Ron & Judy Coday, of Pawhuska, Phil & Penny Cooper of Austin, Tx, Jody & Annie Evans of Manchester, Byron & Wanda Gibson of Jay, John & Carol Gibson of Longview, Tx., Rick & Sheila Hirschbein of Chicago, Il, and Les & Susie Jacobs of Cassville, Mo. They considered all their friends’ children as their own, and treated them thusly.

Sherry & Dave loved to travel, whether within the United States or abroad, traveling to Germany, France, England, Wales, The Netherlands, and Mexico.
