Roger was born April 12, 1962 in Kiowa to Horace and Jennie VanRanken. He passed away in Medicine Lodge on July 24, 2019. He lived in this area his entire life. In 1982 he married his high school sweetheart, Tonia. To this union three children were born: Sheila, Beau and Samantha. Roger was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and hunting. He was well known for his predator hunting skills. He worked for the Chain Ranch for twenty-five years. During that time, he participated in many ranch rodeos. To this day he still holds the team roping doctrine arena record time for the OCA Range Roundup at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie. He was a Board member for the Medicine Lodge Golf Course and has been on the state fishing team for the Kansas Bass Anglers Association four separate times. He was also a member of the Community Bible Fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Gene Garrett.
He is survived by his wife, Tonia VanRanken; three children, Sheila Tatro and husband, Michael, Beau VanRanken and wife, Steffanie and Samantha Morrison and husband, Joel; grandchildren, Molly and Clay Tatro and Jack Roger Morrison; three brothers, Howard VanRanken and wife, Loretta, Doug VanRanken and wife, Cindy, Ronnie VanRanken and wife, Cindy Kay; one sister, Anita Bedwell and husband, Pat; mother-in-law, Lillian Garrett; three sisters-in-law and their families and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the funeral home on behalf of the family.
