Rodney Eugene Wright, born on June 5, 1961, in Kiowa, Kansas to Franklin and MaryLou (Davis) Wright, passed away on September 6, 2024, after a battle with cancer. He was born, raised, and died in Kiowa. Rodney graduated from South Barber High school in 1979 and cherished the friendships he made in his school years. On November 20, 1984, Rodney married Alice, and they were married for almost 40 years, having two children, Jason and Andrea.
A fixture in the farming community, Rodney dedicated decades of service to all aspects of harvesting – from working with harvest crews in his youth, working with Randy Kersten on the farm, and spending 35 years at the OK CO-OP. After leaving the CO-OP, Rodney transitioned into working with his father at Frank’s Repair, eventually mentoring his son, Jason, to then look over the business. Rodney continued to serve the community’s small engine needs until his passing.
Anyone who knew Rodney knew that he thought he was the funniest person in the room, and sometimes this was the case. He loved his family, his friends, Kansas Jayhawk Basketball, and his 1940 Chevy truck, not always in that order. Always good for conversation, chats were long, and goodbyes were often longer. If you ever stopped by the shop, you always made sure to have an extra 30 minutes. We will all miss his long goodbyes.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Alice; son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, Jason, Olivia, and Ellie of Kiowa; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Jesus of Lawrence; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Allen Asmussen and sister, Brenda Anderson all of Hutchinson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and MaryLou.
