Richard Loren Masters was born September 24, 1955 to Don and LaVonne Masters in La Junta, Colorado and passed from this life on May 27, 2020. He graduated high school in Coldwater, Kansas in 1973. Rick married Homa Lea Houston in 1977. They had a daughter, Meagan, in 1979 and a son, Brandon, in 1982. He worked in the oilfields of northwest Oklahoma through the boom in the 1980’s. In 1988 Rick and Homer divorced and Rick pursued a new career path by attending the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. This led him to become manager of the parts department at Chosa’s Harley Davidson in Mesa, Arizona. His path then took him to Missouri for a short time and on to Colorado and High Country Harley Davidson. While he worked there, he met Janet Reardon who he married in 2006.
Rick’s love of riding motorcycles was a lifelong passion. From his first mini bike and 350 Honda he moved on to a 1978 Harley Lowrider, eventually named “Ol’ Blue.” He rode to Sturgis several times during his life, made numerous lengthy trips across the country, including several from Arizona to Oklahoma and Oklahoma to Colorado. He loved the wind on his face.
When the oil industry picked back up, Rick was drawn back to the rigs. He worked for Cade Drilling as a tool pusher for several years before moving on to Anadarko as a company man. A stroke in 2012 left Rick unable to work anymore. He and Janet divorced in 2017 and he moved to Pryor, Oklahoma to be close to family. He enjoyed visits from Meagan and Brandon and their families, and he loved spending time with his brothers, their families, Aunt Jane, and her husband, Archie Brewer. He went on several fishing and hunting trips with his family, even recently adding to his collection of tattoos on a memorable trip with Steve, Mike, and Jason. After another stroke in 2019, Rick was left unable to walk or speak clearly. In August, Meagan and Brandon moved him to Kiowa, KS so that he could watch his grandchildren play, which always brought a smile to his face.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Don and LaVonne Masters and sister, Vickie Masters.
