Ralph Ward

August 25, 1930 — February 19, 2014

HAZELTON-Ralph Ward, 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Kiowa. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Hazelton, Kansas.

Ralph was born on August 25, 1930 to Ollie H. Ward and Cora Elizabeth Carter Ward at Wilmore, Kansas. He graduated from Wilmore HighSchool with the class of 1948. On June 21, 1953 he and Telora J. Van Vranken were united in marriage at Hazelton, Kansas. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years and worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a bridge foreman, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Alva, Oklahoma where he has been the longtime treasurer and was a member of the church choir. He was a member of the reunion organization for the USS Leonard F. Mason Navy Ship. He served as secretary/treasure of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Union for the railroad. He was an officer of the OWLS Senior Center in Hazelton, was active in the Senior Center in Kiowa, loved bowling and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Telora; daughter, Ralora Albright ;granddaughter, Sarah Albright; five brothers Floyd, Lloyd, Merton, John and Paul.

He is survived by his two children Michael Ward and wife, Lou Anne of Wichita and Debra Cox and husband, Bill of Kiowa; five grandchildren Ryan Cox and wife, Jamie, Evan Cox and wife, Elizabeth, Banon Cox and wife, Jordyn, Miranda Albright; four great grandchildren Jesse Lopez, Camden Cox, Zoey Cox, Dillon Cox and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the Bible Baptist Church in Alva, Oklahoma or the OWLS Center and given to the funeral home.

The casket will be open at the funeral home on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and before the service at the church.
