Rachel Anderson, 94, entered into rest February 2, 2018 at Share Medical Center in Alva, Oklahoma. She was surrounded by her children and other loved ones at her passing.
Rachel, daughter of the late Wooten Baxter Bell and Cornelia Lee (Fraze) Bell, was welcomed into the world August 31, 1923 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She attended school in the Guthrie School District. Rachel went to work for a family in Guthrie taking care of their child. She moved to Cherokee, Oklahoma, with the family, where she met her future husband, Charles Anderson.
On April 18, 1940 she was joined in marriage to Charles. They shared 44 years together before his death in 1984. To this union five children were born: Georgia, Shirley, Tressie, Jack and John. She and Charley raised their family in Cherokee, Oklahoma. She loved cooking for her family and others. She was most famous for her homemade potato soup, ham and beans, fried potatoes and cornbread. Her pumpkin pie was a favorite dessert among them. Her role in this world has always been “caregiver”. She had a heart to help others and to make sure they were taken care of. She had a tender spot for children helping them with what little she had whether they were local children or through various charitable causes. Rachel moved to Kiowa in 2004 to be closer to family. She became a member of the First Christian Church and grew to love the members as family. She touched many lives through her relationship with the Lord and her fascinating life experience stories. Rachel’s final earthly address was Beadles Nursing Home in Alva, Oklahoma, where she developed many close relationships in her abbreviated stay with them.
Her presence in this world will be truly missed by her remaining children, Shirley Harris (James) of Vaucluse, South Carolina, Tressie Hess (Allen) of Kiowa, Kansas, Jack Anderson (Susan) of Norman, Oklahoma, John Anderson of Alva, Oklahoma and son-in-law, Raymond Randall of Kiowa, Kansas. She also leaves behind seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren.
