Phyllis Darlene (Page) Otis, Age 92, of Burlington, Oklahoma passed away with her son by her side, on the farm, September 21, 2024.
Phyllis was born on May 29, 1932, in Friona, Texas to the late L.W. and Amy (Ackley) Page. She was the youngest of eleven.
The family moved from Texas to the Driftwood/Burlington area in 1935. Mom attended grade school until the fourth grade at Driftwood later graduating from Burlington High School. She was active in sports, music, home economics and various other activities. She worked for Walter Frey at the grocery store in Burlington, after that in 1969, she started working as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service. She was eventually named the Postmaster and retired after almost 30 years of service. Mom loved to see the children come by on Halloween in their costumes and pass out treats. She was always ready when a certain little boy (Bo Ferell) would come every so often and ask if she had a quarter so he could get a coke. Mom had a big heart and was always willing to help those in need. Mom continued to work as a wife and mother to her family. Phyllis was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Burlington until its closing she then moved her membership to Alva. She was active in the Home Demonstration Club as well as helping her two boys in their activities.
On August 17, 1952, she married the love of her life Sam Otis. They were married for 67 years. To this union were two boys, Stanley and Phillip Otis.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her late husband Sam Otis of Burlington, her son LTC Phillip W (Pud) Otis. 7 brothers and two sisters. Phyllis is survived by one son, Stanley Brian Otis of Burlington and brother Frances Eldon (Pod) of Cunningham, Kansas. Daughter-in-law, Gisela (Ullie) Bentonville, Arkansas. Six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday October 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alva First Christian Church. Interment will follow at Keith cemetery, near Burlington. Viewing will be Monday September 30, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. in Cherokee
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Burlington Education Foundation and to the Burlington Fire Department.
