Olla Abbott

Olla Mae Abbott, 90, a resident of Kiowa, Kansas for 59 years, was a Godly woman. Through her love for the Lord she raised her children and grandchildren to know God.  She was a Charter Member of Kiowa Southern Baptist Church and was a blessing to those around her.  On December 18, 2020 she was called home to her Lord and Savior, no doubt welcomed with warmth and love.

Olla Mae was born August 13, 1930 to Ollie and Mildred Miers on a small farm near Chelsea, Oklahoma. Five years later her brother Marvin was born to the family. As a young child she attended the Indian Day School, the only school nearby, where she was the sole white student for several years. She made many long-term friends at the school who were Cherokee and Shawnee Native Americans and occasionally attended their stomp dances. Her teacher, Mrs. McElhaney, a Kiowa Indian, was an important influence on her. Olla Mae consistently credited Mrs. McElhaney’s efforts to bring Sunday School to the area's children as the start of her journey with Christ. At age 12 she attended a Revival where she asked Christ into her heart and life. Her faith remained a consistent source of strength and comfort from that moment on.

In 1948 Olla Mae graduated from Bluejacket High School and then attended Miami Business School, in Miami, Oklahoma. Upon her return home she worked as a bookkeeper with the natural gas company in Vinita, Oklahoma and later at Perry’s Dime Store in Kiowa, Kansas.

Olla Mae married Bob Abbott on February 14, 1954. To them were born four children: Roberta, Delbert, David, and Susan Darlene. One of Olla Mae's greatest joys was teaching her “little ones” in Sunday school, helping build their faith and love for the Lord for around 60 years at several churches in Oklahoma and Kansas. She also shared her love for Christ and talents as Choir Leader in Kiowa, Kansas for 12 years. Olla Mae also enjoyed baking, crafting, and poetry.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Ollie and Mildred Miers; her brother, Marvin Miers; two infant siblings; her husband, Bob Abbott; a son, David Abbott, and one grandson, Josh Perks.

She is survived by her three children: Roberta Ditch (Tim) of Wellington, Kansas, Delbert Abbott (Kim) of El Paso, Texas, and Susan Darlene Perks (Roy) of Alva, Oklahoma. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Sarah Murrow (Derek), Lisa Courson (Charles), Chelsea Ditch, Caleb Ditch, and Cash Tomberlin, Cody Tomberlin, and Carter Murrow. She also leaves behind four siblings-in-law, Geneva Miers, Jessie Mae Harp (Jim), Velma Holt, and Bill Abbott (Debbie). She is also lovingly remembered by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral service, led by Rev. Ken Bowden, will be held Tuesday December 22, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Kiowa Southern Baptist Church.  Graveside service, led by Rev.
