Cherokee-Funeral service for Melvin, 84, will be Friday, July 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Cherokee First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Viewing will be on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Melvin was born on June 12, 1931 in Carnegie to Albert Unruh and Bertha Froese Unruh and passed from this life on July 12, 2015 in Oklahoma City. He grew up in Hillsdale and served in the United States Navy. He had lived in Alva, Enid and Cherokee. He was a member of the Cherokee First Baptist Church and of the Masonic Lodge, serving as treasurer. Melvin enjoyed woodworking and fishing and had previously owned and operated a grocery store.
Those who preceded Melvin in death include his parents; wife, Shirley Unruh and sister, LaVera Buller.
Survivors include his children, Dennis Unruh and wife, Bonnie and Belinda Michael and husband, Paul both of Cherokee; grandchildren, Kendra Anthony and husband, Brandon of Germany, Shelby Michael of Cherokee, Jacob Unruh and wife, Ashley of Oklahoma City and Rachel Unruh of Cherokee and one great grandchild, Montana Ledford; one brother, Donald Unruh and wife, Linda of Virginia and one sister, LaVerna Unruh of Texas
