Maxine (Reid) Rector, 89, passed away March 28, 2014 in Mustang. She was born January 13, 1925 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Max and Patsy (Norred) Reid. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Rector and her parents. She is survived by her children, Cindy Mullican and husband, Robert of Bethany, OK and Rob Rector and wife, Lynn of Broken Arrow, OK; two brothers, Jere Reid of Memphis, TN and Dick Reid and wife, Lue of Blytheville, AR; three grandsons, Matthew Mullican and wife, Erin of Washington, DC, Brett Rector of Broken Arrow and Reid Rector of Broken Arrow. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Maxine graduated from Blytheville High School in 1942. She received a BS degree in Dietician/Nutrition from the Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, MS in 1946 and began her career as a Staff Dietitian in the Food and Nutrition Department of University Hospital (later renamed Oklahoma Health Center) in Oklahoma City. Bob and Maxine were wed April 16, 1949 in Blytheville, AR.
Maxine was a consultant dietician for numerous nursing home facilities across northwestern Oklahoma until her retirement in the 1990's.
Maxine was a member in Eastern Star, past presidents of PEO and the Okeene Band Boosters, and was Mother Advisor of both the Canton and Okeene Rainbow Girls. Maxine served on the first North Central Evaluation accreditation team for Okeene High School. She was past president of the Watonga Book Club and a member of the Watonga Travel Club. Maxine enjoyed knitting, sewing and a variety of needlepoint and was an avid bridge player. She was a longtime member of Okeene First United Methodist Church.
In 2006, Maxine moved into an assisted living facility in Bethany. In 2012, she moved into the memory care unit of Arbor House in Mustang. The family is especially grateful to the staff at Arbor House, Universal Home Health Care and Crossroads Hospice for the loving care she received.
A celebration of life service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Okeene at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 2, 2014 with Rev. Robert Harrison officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery near Okeene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
