Martha Smith

The funeral services for Martha Marie Smith, 66, of Helena will take place in Helena on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Helena First Baptist Church. The viewing of Martha Smith will be from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Lanman Funeral Home in Helena on Saturday. The services will be conducted by Pastor Scott Hofen and Chaplain Bob Webster and burial to follow at the Del Norte Cemetery near Drummond.

Martha was born in Enid, Oklahoma on July 23, 1947 to Joe and Marjorie Frazier Stonehocker and passed from this life on January 2, 2014 in Oklahoma City. Martha was initially raised with her other nine siblings in a small home outside of Drummond.

Martha married Joseph Fillmore Smith Sr., and they had five children together. The children are Joe (Jody), Charlie, Jonathan, Mike and Sarah.

Survivors include children, Joe Smith and wife, Belinda of Arnett, Charlie Smith of Enid, Jonathan Smith and wife, Becca of Mayock, North Carolina, Mike Smith and wife, Cheryl of Charlotte, North Carolina and Sarah Hooten and husband, Chris of Alva; grandchildren, Lydia Smith, David Smith, Alex Smith, Allan Smith, Nathanial Smith, Cheyenne Hooten and Elizabeth Love; great grandchildren, Skyler Love, Addison Love and Aurelia Rinker. Also surviving Martha are siblings, Grace Elaine Severin of Lahoma, David Samuel of Fairview, Marjorie Pearl Burell of Idaho, Charles William of Ames, Earl Moore of Enid, Amelia Diane of Enid, Arthur Raymond of Helena and Hubert Harvey of Fairview.

Preceding Martha in death are her parents, Joe and Marjorie Stonehocker; two of her brothers, Joseph Leroy, April 10, 1946 and Jacob Byron (J.B.), March 9, 2001.

Martha Marie retired as a Sergeant from the Department of Corrections after working over 30 years at the James Crabtree Correctional Center. Martha contributed to the beauty of Helena by providing flower gardens located in and around Helena and also at the Helena War Memorial. Martha was selected as Citizen of the Year in Helena for her beautification contributions; this meant so much to Martha to be considered for this award.
