Lori Geis

Okeene-Funeral for Lori Jean Geis will be Monday, March 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Okeene United Methodist Church. Viewing will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Lori was born on August 1, 1971 in Okeene, the daughter of Betty Huebert Geis and the late Willis Geis and departed this life March 11, 2013 in Okeene at the age of forty-one. She is survived by her mother Betty Geis; brother, Lynn E. Geis; uncle and aunt, Weldon and Barbara Geis; cousins, Kennan Geis and James Fielder.

Lori graduated from Okeene High School in 1989. She was active in the speech, drama and music programs. She continued her education at Oklahoma City University. She completed her Bachelor of Music Performance in 1993 and her Masters in Music Performance in 1996. Upon graduation she was offered the vocal music position at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas. She spent thirteen years at Seward County with her choirs earning the honor to travel to Carnegie Hall in New York City, to Salt Lake City and the Mormon Tabernacle and to Victoria Island, British Columbia. Her Sound Express Show Choir traveled to Branson, Missouri and performed in various theaters. She was also choir director at the First Christian Church in Liberal. Lori spent much of her free time teaching private voice lessons. Lori moved back to Oklahoma with the goal of working on her doctorate. She was hired at Marlow Public Schools to teach high school and junior high music, where she developed very successful programs. Her desire to also attend Oklahoma University and work on her doctorate was denied due to health problems. Lori dedicated her life’s work to helping others discover the joy of music, and she truly loved her students.
