Medford-Funeral service for Loren D. Shire, 88, will be Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Medford First Christian Church. Viewing will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Loren Dale Shire was born March 8, 1928 in a farmhouse northeast of Medford. He was the third of ten children born to Ivan and Aileen Palmer Shire. He was called home on June 19, 2016 at the age of 88. Loren was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He spent most of his life in the Jefferson-Medford area, farming, ranching and welding. He also spent many years working at the Enid Sale Barn and as a rural mail carrier in the Medford/Wakita area. He attended Country School and Medford grade school and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947. He then attended Oklahoma A&M. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Adams on March 3, 1951. He was a member of Jefferson and Medford First Christian Churches, where he served as an Elder, a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also served the community as a 4-H leader and on the Fair Board.
Loren is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Lorena (Mike) Smithheisler, Ronna (Steve) Soper, Mona (Dave) Denney, and Tana Davis (Chip Ross) and one son, Evan (Sherri) Shire. He is also survived by his brothers, Fred, Marvin, Ronnie and Gail; his sisters, Shirley, Beverley and Karen; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, with more on the way.
