Kirk Johnson
Kirk Johnson was born March 5, 1941 on the family farm east of Waynoka to Paul and Leojean Johnson. He graduated from Waynoka High School in 1959 and moved to Kiowa that same year. He worked for several of the Tucker companies in Kiowa, including the sewing factory, speed mover fabrication, and the tire company. He also assembled lawn mowers, boats, and agricultural equipment. For several years he owned a side business called K&B radio which installed and serviced radios for many of the local farmers and ranchers. He earned his pilot license in the early 1970’s. He finished his work career as manager of the Burlington Co-op from which he retired. Avis and Kirk met while working at Tucker’s.
Kirk married Graceva Simmons in 1959. To this marriage were born Gary (Julie) and Terry (Lori). In 1971 Kirk married Brenda Eason. From this marriage Kirk adopted Brenda’s children, Shelly (Danny) and Mark (Elaine). In 1982 Kirk married Avis Barton and loved her three children, Tammy (Travis), Tonya (Jerry), and Travis (Deeon), as his own.
Kirk had eighteen grandchildren: Nicole, Jessica, Shannon, Chase, Loren, Linda, Bentley, Heather, Garret, Cory, Caleb, Devin, Shelby, Brianna, Jordan, Thayer, and Shala.
Kirk had thirty-four great-grandchildren: Dani, Erin, Bristol, Zarah, Ryker, Livia, Remi, Harley, Maggie, Woodrow, Cayden, Noah, Devin, Micah, Ainsley, Gavin, Ruby, Liam, Emma, Ryker, Ronan, Kori, Peyton, Kyler, Dahalia, Aiden, Keenan, Baylee, Michael, Amelia, Chantel, Harvey, Katy, and Larmie.
Kirk’s surviving siblings include: Marilyn Beatty and husband, Bill and Suzanne Kernahan and husband, Jerry.
Kirk is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Leojean Johnson; brothers, Marvin and Dennis Johnson; grandchildren, Shala Washington and Larmie Barton, and great-grandchild, Zander Barton.
Kirk was an active member of the Kiowa United Methodist Church.
Funeral service for Kirk will be Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Kiowa United Methodist Church. Viewing will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
