Nescatunga-Funeral service for June Murray will be Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Lanman Chapel in Cherokee with Chaplin Jennifer Griffith and Rev. Chris Griffith officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation - Alzheimer's Division.
June was born on June 11, 1925 in Rush Springs to Thomas Joel Mills and Minnie Lee Crow Mills and passed from this life on March 18, 2014 at her home in Nescatunga. June married Frank Brown, Jr. in 1941 and they lived in Alva for fifteen years. When ODOT transferred Frank to Enid, they lived there for twenty-six years. They had a cabin at Nescatunga on Great Salt Plains Lake, which was a family gathering place for many years. In the early 1980's they bought a double wide and put it on Lakeview Drive. They were married for forty-nine years before Frank's passing in June of 1990. After June and Walter "Bud" Murray were married in March of 1991, they lived in her home at Nescatunga. Bud passed away on July 8, 2013 at Cherokee Manor, where June was living at that time. June was a seamstress for J.C. Penney and later was a caregiver for private families. She always was creative with yarn, crocheting and knitting dolls, afghans for everyone, coasters, napkins boxes and perpetual calendars. She also enjoyed beadwork. June kept her hands busy one way or another.
She is survived by her children, Bobbi Atterbery and husband, Harvey and Ellace Jean Jones; brother, Joel Mills; grandchildren, Randy Steele and wife, Diane, Jeff Steele and wife, Karla, Ricky Brown and fiance, Scharlene, Joel Brown and wife, Katie, Kimmie Bogan and husband, Jeff, Pamela Jean Cagle and husband, Rick, Tammy June Rose and husband, Jimmy; numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
Those who preceded June in death include husbands, Frank Brown, Jr. and Walter "Bud" Murray; brother, Olen Mills; sisters, Opal and Jean Mills; son, Olen Richard Brown; grandsons, Robert Trotter, Jr. and Bobby Allen Jones.
