Funeral services for Judith A. Smetana of Medford will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the First Christian Church of Medford. The Rev. Craig VanDeburgh will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Medford.
Judith was born at her grandparents’ home in Cherryvale, Kansas on October 4, 1941 to Alvin and Marjorie Wages. The family later moved to Coffeyville, Kansas, where Judith attended grade school. In 1954, the family moved to Medford where she attended high school.
She married Robert L. Smetana on November 22, 1958. In 1962 they moved from Wichita, Kansas to the Smetana family homestead that Robert's grandparents had claimed during the Cherokee Strip Land Run in September, 1893. Judith then worked as a helping farmer housewife with her husband, Robert.
She served as mother advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in Medford. Judith was a CNA (Certified Nurse's Aide) and a CMA (Certified Medication Aide) and worked for the Community Health Center in Wakita, Oklahoma for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home. Judith is also survived by three children, Debra Witt and her husband, Steve of Salina, Kansas, Wayne Smetana of Wakefield, Kansas, and Tim Smetana and his wife, Lori, of Spokane, Washington. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, Sharon Jordan and her husband, Don, of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth Wages and his wife, Cherie, of Medford, Juanita Hammer of Lockhart, Texas, and Chris Harmon and her husband, Butch, of Enid, Oklahoma.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Marjorie Wages, two brothers, James L. Wages and Alvin Wages, and one sister, Karen Cook. She was also preceded in death by two beloved great granddaughters, Madison Witt and Briella Farrar.
Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Medford through the funeral home.
