J.R. Miller

J. R. Miller was born Frederick J. R. Miller on September 9, 1929 in Alva, the son of Frederick Gerold Miller and Ola Mae Cline Miller. He departed this life on December 4, 2014 in Enid.

J. R. had spent his lifetime in the Alva/Cherokee area where he was a farmer, heavy equipment operator, mechanic, oil field roughneck, doing what needed to be done to make a living and help others along the way. He and Mary Heise were married December 23, 1965 in Alva and they worked and cooked together. He had owned and operated the Dairy King in Cherokee where all the school kids went for lunch each day as well as Millers 66 Cafe. You could find J. R. all over Cherokee working many jobs.

Those who have preceded him in death are his wife, Mary; his parents, Frederick Gerold and Ola Mae Miller; three sisters, Dorothy Murrow, Betty Dooley and Anna Corr; and two brothers, Gerold Miller and Marion Miller.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Carol Miller of Vinita; his daughter, Juanita Miller of Cherokee; three grandchildren, Carol Miller, Jr., Kyle Miller and Kelsey Miller; three sisters, Leona Mertes of Omaha, Nebraska, Ethel Haltom and husband, Verle of Alva and Sharon Stimple of Hallam, Nebraska plus many other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Alfalfa County Ambulance Service or Oklahoma Medical Research, Diabetes or Cancer Research through the funeral home.

Funeral service for J. R. Miller will be Monday, December 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends Church in Cherokee with Pastor Joe Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
