Joseph Frieden

April 9, 1925 — May 25, 2021

Kiowa

Joseph Jacob Frieden, oldest son of Jeff and Frieda Farney Frieden, was born April 9, 1925 on a farm south of Burlington, Oklahoma.  He passed from this life peacefully into the arms of His Savior at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 16 days on May 25, 2021 at Kiowa District Hospital.

Joe attended Burlington Public School and graduated in 1943.  He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1944, serving 18 months in the South Pacific with Americal Division.  Joe’s division was slated to invade Japan when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which eventually ended the war.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.

In 1945, while on furlough, he married Mildred Gale Daughhetee of Hazelton, Kansas.  They lived in Hazelton for a year, during which time Joe drove a school bus and helped his Dad farm for a time.  When his folks moved to Winfield, Kansas, Joe and Mildred moved to the farm north of Burlington where they raised their three children: David, Janice, and Danny.  In 1958 Joe went to work at Boeing and moved his family to Winfield, returning a year later to the farm in Oklahoma.

Joe became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in 1968.  Family and Church were always very important to Joe.

Joe moved his folks to Kiowa in their later years, and when they passed away, Joe and Mildred moved to Kiowa.  But they loved the farm and were down there working almost every day.  Joe was still mowing two farmsteads and his lawn in Kiowa plus his ditches with a tractor and mower at age 96 when he passed away.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Kiowa; children, David Frieden (MJ) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Janice Bahr (Jeff ) of Hazelton, Kansas and Danny Frieden of Stillwater, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Cara Neal of Redondo Beach, California, Cody Frieden (Bretina) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephanie Rinkenberger (Joel) of Bluffton, Indiana, Kelly Frieden (Tiffany) of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Tifani Leman (Jake) of Aurora, Colorado, Brett Frieden (Bailey) of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Chelsie Jones (Lee) of Seoul, South Korea; great grandchildren, Cameron, Marcos, Aron, Diego, Cruz, Ithan, Eric, Conner, Cyrus, Maya, Baby Leman, Rylee, Walker, Olivia, Audrey; brothers, Jim Frieden (Peg) of Hurst, Texas, Jeff Frieden (Deb) of Howard, Kansas; sisters, Helen Farney of Ft.
