Joanne Lawrence passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at Wakita Community Health Center after a long battle with Parkinson's.
Joanne was born in Wakita on July 23, 1923 to Perry and Ollie Harp. She was a graduate of Wakita High School and Enid Business College. After her schooling, she worked at Beechcraft in Wichita, Kansas until the end of World War II.
She married her grade school sweetheart, R. D. Lawrence, on June 26, 1945. They were married 68 years. Joanne was a fine representative of an Oklahoma farm wife. She was always prepared to feed a dozen hay hands; work on algebra with the kids; serve in her church (Fairview Christian Church, Sand Creek, Oklahoma) as song leader, VBS director or teacher; or give years of volunteer service at the local nursing home. She cared little for attention, yet, gave much of it to her family. Because of her debilitating disease, she spent her final four and one half years as a resident of Wakita Community Health Center.
Those preceding her in death include one daughter, Vicki Jo in 1953; her parents, Perry and Ollie Harp and her sister, Marjorie Northcutt.
Survivors include her husband, R.D. Lawrence; three children, Leanna Turney and husband, Johnny, Richard Lawrence and wife, Peggy and Julie Gariss and husband, Randy; six grandchildren, Stefani Northcutt, Brady Lawrence, Clint Lawrence, Troy Gariss, Katie Marsh and Megan Gariss and ten great grandchildren, Caden Lawrence, Hudson Lawrence, Boston Lawrence, Brittin Lawrence, Ian Gariss, Brooke Gariss, Heath Gariss, Kinley Marsh, Hunter Marsh and Will Marsh.
Memorials may be given to Wakita Community Health Center or church or charity of choice through the funeral home
