Jim Blevins

KIOWA-James (Jim) Thomas Blevins passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Kiowa District Hospital at the age of 85 years 5 months 14 days. Funeral service will be Monday, February 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Christian Church in Kiowa.

James born to John E. and Minnie Ann Wilson Blevins on September 10, 1928 at Waldon, Kansas. He was one of seven children. James was raised and attended grade school at Waldron, Kansas. His family moved to Aline, Oklahoma where he finished his high school years. When James was a young man his family moved to Southwest City, Missouri. It was in Southwest City that James met and married Wanda E. Gibson on April 13, 1958. Wanda and James raised Wanda's brothers and sisters. James worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and at a walnut factory in Gravette, Arkansas until his mother passed away then James and his father moved back to Amorita, Oklahoma to be with family. There James worked for Alfalfa County as a truck driver. When James'father passed, James moved back to Kiowa, Kansas. For the past 9 years, James has made his home at the Kiowa Manor. James loved his family and music, which at a young age he played with this brothers and sisters. James was famous for singing (Hey Good Lookin') with the nursing staff and visitors. For entertainment, he played his harmonica and guitar.

James is survived by his sister, Ester Belle Booze of Goddard, Kansas; nineteen nieces and nephews, Jackie and Charles McKown of California, Helen and Steve Vail of Florida, Maurine and Tom Reeves of Kansas, Jerry and Vicki Blevins of Kansas, Judy and Carl Martin of Oklahoma, John and Connie Blevins of Kansas, Jim and Beverly Blevins of Oklahoma, Jack and Jenett Blevins of Oklahoma Linda Sue Blevins and Thornton of Oklahoma, Leota An n and Ron Mott of Oklahoma, Sur and John Thomas of Kansas, Jack and Donna Rich of Oklahoma, Vera and Bill Gardner of Oklahoma, Nita and John Rennie of Kansas, Richard and Lolly Rich of Oklahoma, Bobby and Janet Smith of Oklahoma, Diana Wallis of Kansas, Linda and Mike Custer of Kansas, Bobby Booze of Wichita and many great great great great great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Blevins; one sister, Lucille Rich; four brothers Herman Blevins, Robert (Bob) Blevins, Richard (Dick) Blevins, John W. Blevins; two nephews J.D. Rich and Larry John Blevins.

Viewing will be at the church before the service. Memorials may be made to the Kiowa Manor or the Christian Church and given to the funeral home.
