Funeral service for Jay E. Leierer, 84, will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Helena Church of Christ with Pastor Bill Springer officiating. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 until 6:00 at the funeral home.
Jay E. was born August 11, 1930 in Enid to Claude C. Leierer and Leila Mae Burgess Leierer. He left his earthly home to go to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Jay E. grew up in the Ringwood Community and began his lifelong work of farming at age 17 in Eastern Colorado. He married Glendene Wiggins, and they raised four children: Jay D. and wife, Karen of Ringwood, David and wife, Twila of Branch, Arkansas, Jackie Phillips and husband, Rob of Cleo Springs and Doug and wife, Marleen of Ringwood.
Jay E. was generous with his family, his church and the community. He was a longtime supporter of the Ringwood and Meno Fire Departments, the FFA Booster Club and other civic organizations. He also supported the Mennonite Disaster Relief Organization. On August 30, 1976 he and Alberta Fisher were married at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Kirk Kirkendall in Wichita, Kansas. They returned to Ringwood, got up the next morning, went to the field and got on a tractor. The honeymoon would have to wait. It was time to sow wheat. Alberta had also raised three sons and a daughter: Mark and wife, Josie of Houston, Texas, Mitchell is deceased, Cindi and husband, Jay D. of Harper, Kansas and Bobby and wife, Debra of Hope, Arkansas. Their blended family celebrated Thanksgivings, Christmases, birthdays, weddings and baby showers. There was always enough love to go around.
Left behind to mourn Jay E.'s passing include his wife, Alberta of Ringwood; his sister, Claudia Weathers of Enid, seven children and their spouses; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a special nephew, Chad Weathers and family; other nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, Claude and Leila Leierer; great grandson, Cash Caywood and brother-in-law, Ray Weathers.
Memorials may be given to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation - Cancer Division through the funeral home.
