Jake Brown

November 1, 1925 — March 4, 2017

Cherokee-Jake was born November 1, 1925 in Duncan to William Eli and Roma Brown and passed from this life at Share Medical Center in Alva on March 4, 2017 at the age of 91. Jake grew up around Duncan. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served until April 23, 1946. He served in the Philippines. Jake married Ester “Shorty” Hensley on May 24, 1946 in Monteg, Texas. They lived in Duncan and Blackwell before moving to Cherokee in 1960. Jake worked for the Featherton Ranch for two years, Haliburton Oil Company for eleven years, owned his own cattle truck, his own welding business, worked for Virgil Prewett for eight and one half years, drove the Cherokee Chief Bus for many years and enjoyed the kids very much. He also worked at Rick Caruthers Construction until he retired in 1991.

Jake has chosen to be cremated and his remains will be laid to rest at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery beside his wife, Shorty Brown.

Jake leaves behind two daughters, Billie Goss and husband, Jim, Jackie Goss and husband, Don both of Cherokee; four grandchildren, Anissa Roberts and husband, Mike of Cherokee, Shannon Reed and husband, Jim of Cherokee, Brandon Goss and wife, Karri of Madill, Justin Goss and wife, Micah of Cherokee.

Jake also had six great grandchildren, Katelyn Waugh and husband, Taylor, Bradon Goss and Corissa Lee, Derek McKinnon and fiancé, Sierra Gable and Kiera Roberts and Chris Wheeler, Britton Goss and Kolby Roberts.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shorty and one brother.

Jake’s service will be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Cherokee Fire Department
