On Thursday, November 26, 2020 Jack H. Bernard passed away at the age of 94.
Jack was born on September 30, 1926 to Otis and Mae Elizabeth Bernard. Jack attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1943.
At the age of 17, Jack joined the Navy. During World War II, he served on supply ships as a gunnery. After the war, Jack attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Engineering.
In 1946, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Nada. Together, they had five children: Gary, Kenneth, Randy, Janet and Linda.
Jack started his professional career as a mechanic while serving in the Navy Reserves. Later, he worked for Snap-on Tools as an Industrial Representative in Wichita, KS and eventually became a Branch Manager after moving to Overland Park, KS.
Upon retirement, Jack and Nada travelled to most of the 48 states and returned home to Cherokee, OK. In Cherokee, Jack worked his black angus cattle, started and ran the Bernard Seed Company, all while Jack and Nada still enjoyed traveling and attending Professional Bull Riding Championships.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Otis T and Mae Elizabeth Bernard; brothers James L. (Jim) Bernard; Otis Thomas (Tom) Bernard and wife Tanis; infant son, Kenneth and son, Gary Bernard.
He is survived by three daughters: Randy Mae Leek of Cherokee, OK; Janet (Jim) Anderson of Springfield, MO; and Linda (Jim) Cordill of Olathe, KS.
Grandchildren: Amy Werner (David) of Portland, OR; Aaron (Melissa) Bernard of Ocean Springs, MS; Kristen (Wesley) Meyer of Grandview, MO; Brian (Sarah) Cordill of McKinney, TX, Rachel and Rebecca Anderson of Springfield, MO.
Great-grandchildren: Christopher and Caeleign Bernard; Hudson and Haleigh Cordill and Lincoln and Logan Meyer.
Jack will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Public visitation is Monday, November 30, 2020 from 11:00am – 4:00pm at Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. A family-only graveside service will be on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 2:00pm. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
