Goltry-Funeral service for Ivan Schmidt will be Monday, October 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Goltry with Dennis Koehn, Randy Schmidt and Patrick Koehn officiating. Burial will follow at Karoma Cemetery east of Goltry with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena. Ivan was born on March 11, 1924 to Allen and Anna Decker Schmidt at Chickasha and passed from this life on October 9, 2014 at Moundridge Manor in Moundridge, Kansas. In 1926 the Allen Schmidt family moved to Morton, Texas. Ivan likely attended school there. In 1938 they moved to Burns, Kansas. Ivan came to the Goltry area when he was eighteen and lived with his uncle and aunt, Elmer and Rhoda Penner. On January 31, 1947 he married Marie Boese. They had one daughter, Shirley. Marie passed away November 6, 2009. Ivan and Marie made their home on a farm northwest of Goltry. Ivan lived on the same farm for 65 years. He moved to the Moundridge Manor on May 23, 2012. Ivan was known as a good farmer and meticulous carpenter. He served on the local school board and the Farmer's Exchange Board. He was a member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Goltry.
Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Hensley of Lockesburg, Arkansas; one sister, Edna Giesel of Burns, Kansas; two brothers, Ferd of Burns, Kansas and Wayne of Graham, Georgia.
Those preceding him in death include his wife, Marie; three brothers, Samuel at age one and half years, Obed and Virgil; two sisters, Lois Schmidt and Elizabeth Dirks.
