Herold Rickabaugh

Herold Jack Rickabaugh was born on October 6, 1930 to Jack and Goldie Pitcher Rickabaugh on the farm in Grant County west of Medford. He graduated from Jefferson School in Jefferson, Oklahoma in 1949. While in high school he was in the Army Reserves. After graduation he continued to work on the family farm with his father. Then he attended school in North Carolina where he earned a degree in heavy equipment. After this, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War for two years. He then came back to the family farm to help his father. He was active in the VFW and served as their District Commander. While assisting his father on the family farm, he started working for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas as a tool man. Then he started working for the U.S. Postal Service in Medford as a rural carrier for 29 years and retired to work full time on the family farm. His main interests were hunting, fishing, and traveling all over the United States and Canada. He was able to travel in the last few years of his life in his RV and loved to take his grandkids for rides in it. He had the gift of "gab" and enjoyed talking with whomever he met. No one was a stranger.

Herold was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Goldie Rickabaugh; three brothers, Louis, Everett and Buford Rickabaugh.

He is survived by his children, Michael Rickabaugh and wife, Tonnya of Enid, Mitzi Cargo and husband, Dayton of Medford; three grandchildren, Vail Cargo, Violet Cargo and Jayden Rickabaugh; two step grandchildren, Ashley Byroads and husband, Mark of Morris and James Sperry of Enid; two step great grandchildren, Alyssa and Taylor Byroads; one sister, Phyllis Haltom and husband, Rex of Coldwater, Kansas; two nieces, Rex Anne Norris and husband, David of Wilmore, Kansas and Patricia Baker and husband, Randy of Coldwater, Kansas and one nephew, Everett Rickabaugh of Emporia, Kansas.

Celebration of life service for Herold Jack Rickabaugh will be Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Medford with Pastor Jonathan Gilliland officiating. Burial will be in Wakita Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Medford. Viewing will be Tuesday 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. www.lanmanmemorials.com
