Gerva Powers

Kiowa-Gerva E. Powers, age 81, long time resident of Kiowa, Kansas, passed away on November 9, 2015 at Kiowa District Hospital Manor after a long illness due to cancer. She was born December 24, 1933 on the farm near Bellefont, Kansas to Grant Powers, Sr. and Alice Henning Powers. She was one of twelve siblings. She graduated from Bucklin High School in Bucklin, Kansas and married her high school sweetheart, Lynn Hargett in August of 1952. Four children were born to them. She was a seamstress for many people and later trained to become a licensed cosmetologist in the state of Kansas. She practiced this profession for many years before retiring. After her retirement, she spent the remaining years enjoying being outside tending to her garden and flowers.

Gerva is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Geraldine (Powers) Dohrman, Genevieve (Powers) Cayton; brothers, Virgil Powers, Clarence Powers, Lavern Powers and Norman Powers.

She is survived by her lifetime love and soul mate of 63 years, Lynn Hargett; her sons, Gary and wife, Debbie (Pollock) Hargett of Waddell, Arizona, Terry and Terry (Bunnell) Hargett of Troy, Missouri, Alan and Marcia (Kraft) Hargett of Copeland, Kansas; one daughter, Lynette (Hargett) Callison and husband, Denny of Kiowa, Kansas; brothers, Grant Powers Jr., Dick Richard Powers, Galen Powers; sisters, Norma (Powers) Ross and Bernice (Powers) Logan; grandchildren, Charles and Lisa Hargett, Todd and Jill Hargett, Meghan and Chris Gray, Cory and Amanda Hargett, Nic and Tori Hargett, Zach Hargett, Josh Hargett, Casey Hargett, Kyle and Lindsey Callison, Kurt Callison; great grandchildren, Jessica, Hunter, Aubrey, Maygan, Bailee, Braxton, Alexis, Darrien, MacKeena, John (Doc) and Cooper.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Kiowa Masonic Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Kiowa District Hospital Manor or Pratt County Hospice through the funeral home.
