George Sands

January 16, 1928 — January 30, 2014

Jet-Funeral service for George Burton Sands will be Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Jet Nazarene Church with Rev. Dean Holt officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery north of Jet. Viewing will be Tuesday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

George was born January 16, 1928 in Bergman, Arkansas, the son of John Burton and Bernice Rushing Sands. He passed from this life on January 30, 2014. He and Clara Johnson were married in Canon’ City, Colorado December 23, 1953. George’s career was the U. S. Navy where he was a damage controlman for a total of twenty-three years, two months and eighteen days. After he retired from the Navy he and Clara came to Jet to live where he was a firefighter and became the State of Oklahoma Fire Marshall. He had served as Commander of DAV and Commander of VFW. George was a member of Jet Nazarene Church where he served as treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Logan and Dean.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Sands; seven children, Richard Sands and wife, Bonnie, Robert Sands and wife, Pamela, Jim Sands and wife, Patsy, Larry Sands, David Sands and wife, Tonya, Greg Sands and wife, Sherri, Tina Etter and husband, Allan; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; one sister, Donna Reddell as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans through the funeral home.
