George Herman Rhoades

February 3, 1933  -  December 29, 2019

George Herman Rhoades, Age 86, entered into this world to Bertha and Charles Rhoades on February 3, 1933 in Wilsey, Kansas and departed from his loved ones on December 29, 2019 and is resting in Jesus’s love.

George attended school in Hardtner, Kansas. After school George worked a variety of jobs before serving in the U.S. Navy as a fireman from May 26, 1950 until he was honorably discharged on December 4, 1953. George then moved back into the Hardtner area and worked in construction, carpentry and mechanics.

George was a hard, working man who would always come to your rescue when called for  help.  He would give you the coat off his back if your needed it.  George raised a total of sixteen children from three different wives I his lifetime including biological and step kids.  If you had seen him on the streets, George may have told you many stories about how his kids were being ornery and getting into mischief.

Besides George was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; eight sisters; six brothers and two sons, Jim Keigley and Glenn Lynn.

He is survived by one sister, Joann Currey; his children,  Barney Lynn, Ann Lee, Robert Walsh, Carolyn Simon, Richard Rhoades, David Rhoades (Jamie), Mary Culbreath, George “Mouse” Rhoades (Melodye), Charlene Farabaugh, Katherine Winegarner (William), Ronnie McKitrick (Nadia) and James Rhoades; forty-four grandchildren; multiple great grandkids (and still counting); numerous nieces; nephews, and lots of other relatives.

A Celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hardtner Community Center/School in Hardtner Kansas with arrangement by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa.  www.lanmanmemorials.com  Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
