Hardtner-George Charles Piersall passed from this life July 4, 2014 in Wichita. He was locally known as Bill Piersall. Bill was born on November 5, 1921 to Eunice Leree and Oliver Bernell "Skeet" Piersall in Shattuck, Oklahoma. His family moved to Hardtner, Kansas in 1933 where he attended school and graduated from Hardtner High School in the class of 1940. He served in the United States Army Combat Engineers in WWII's Pacific Theatre from 1942 to 1946 as a Tech Sargeant and remained a life long member of the American Legion.
Bill and Bernice Luty, from Kiowa, were married on August 17, 1946 and they had two children, Luty and George, Jr. He worked as Postmaster of the U. S. Post Office in Hardtner for the next twenty-nine years. In addition to being Postmaster, he raised wheat and cattle in partnership with his brother, Leland "Doc" Piersall.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Piersall; his parents; three brothers, Leland "Doc" Piersall, Lawrence "Jack" Piersall and Teddy Keith Piersall; four sisters, Kathryn McCune, later Kathryn Bonham, Eileen Gwinner, Betty Lukens and Treva Michel, later Treva Baker.
Bill is survived by his two children, Luty and Charles Armantrout of Medicine Lodge, Kansas and George Piersall, Jr. and Crystal Fraser of Sedona, Arizona; three granddaughters, Leigh Anne LaGarry, Kristi Armantrout and Ashley Pritchard; three great grandchildren, Brittany Ramsey, Rahammah LaGarry and Devon LaGarry.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m at Hardtner United Methodist Church with Debbie Fink officiating. Burial will be in Hardtner-Elwood Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Kiowa. Memories may be shared at www.lanmanmemorials.com.
