KIOWA-Doris Faye Summers Hill was born August 20, 1920 in rural Woods County, Oklahoma and passed from this live on February 7, 2013 at the Kiowa Hospital District Manor. Faye was one of four children born to parents, Joseph and Gladys Elmore Summers. She graduated from Hardtner High School in 1937, and then resided in Wichita, Kansas where she attended business school. On August 10, 1940 she and Archie (Bud) Hill were united in marriage in Wichita, and then established their home in Alva, Oklahoma. Three sons; Kent Mike and Ron were born to this union. The family resided in Alva until they moved to Kiowa in 1950, where Faye and Bud owned and operated Hill Funeral Home. Upon Bud’s death in 1970, Faye continued to run the business until her retirement in 1971. She remained active as a long time member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s organization, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sew and Sew Club. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school events and hosting family holiday gatherings.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie; son, Kent; sister, Lucille Shank; brothers Jimmie and infant brother, Wesley.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Mike and Janice Hill of Kiowa, Ron and Mary Hill of Medicine Lodge, Venita Hill of Kiowa; eight grandchildren, Kendra Miller and husband, Johnny of Chandler, Oklahoma, Krista Pollock and husband, Mark of Kiowa, Kathy Shilling and husband, Nate of Olathe, Kansas, Lesley Hill of Overland Park, Jed Hill, Ryan Hill and Tyson Hill all of Medicine Lodge, Brian Hill and wife, Tami of Kiowa; seven great-grandchildren Taylor and Clare Pollock of Kiowa, Isaac, Leah and Luke Shilling of Olathe, Weston and Cortlyn Hill of Topeka.
Funeral service will be Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Kiowa. Burial will follow in the Hardtner-Elwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Kiowa District Hospital or the Kiowa Manor and given to the funeral home.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
