Cherokee-Funeral service for Evelyn Judd, 89, will be Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Cherokee with Rev. Tom Cooksey officiating. Burial will follow at Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Viewing: Monday, 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00.
Evelyn was born on March 25, 1924 in Blind Lake, Minnesota to James Tracy Shepard and Minnie Metzer Shepard and passed from this life on May 30, 2013 in Enid. As a young woman during World War II she worked in an airplane factory in Michigan on the war planes, doing her part to support the war effort. The family had their own “Rosie the Riveter” in the flesh. On December 27, 1950 she married Howell W. Judd in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. Evelyn lived in this area over fifty years, moving here from Washington State. Evelyn owned and operated Ev’s Upholstery Shop in Cherokee since 1979. Evelyn was a member of Beggs Roundup Club and Cherokee Roundup Club. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life. Evelyn attended First Baptist Church in Cherokee.
Those who preceded her in death included her husband, Howell; her parents, James Tracy and Minnie Shepard; four brothers; three sisters; one son at birth; grandson, Tracy Lynn; granddaughters, Judy Michelle and Celia Lianne; great granddaughter, Jessica Rose and son-in-law, Steve Vetter.
Survivors are her children, Russell and Mary Judd of Hamilton, Kansas, Duane and Sheri Judd of Cherokee, Valerie Judd Vetter of Cherokee, Celia and Rex Gleason of Beggs and Linda and Charles Tucker of Cherokee; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.
