Ersel O. Dixon, Jr.
Ersel O. Dixon, Jr. former resident of Medford, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2021 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was 76 years old.
Ersel was born November 8, 1944 in Enid, Oklahoma. He was the oldest child of Ersel Dixon, Sr. and Phyllis (Unruh) Dixon. He graduated from Medford High School, where he lettered in football.
Ersel was introduced to his lifelong passion of hunting by his dad. His favorite was pond jumping ducks, which became a race as to who could get the first one. But Ersel was best known for shooting five quail on a covey rise with a pump shotgun which was witnessed by his brother-in-law.
An entrepreneur at heart, Ersel started Dixon Sales and Service and soon added a gun shop called “Have Gun Will Travel” after his favorite TV series.
Ersel would watch any sport with enthusiasm and coax any one into a dollar bet on the outcome, not caring which side he chose.
Ersel was preceded in death by his parents, Ersel Sr. and Phyllis Dixon of Medford. He is survived by his sister, Jaynell Hall and husband, Bill of Ponca City, nephew, Chad Hall and wife, Robyn, their children, Austun, Kyle and Morgan of Tonkawa, nephew, Jeremy Hall and wife, Cristie and their children, Garner and wife, Marissa, Grayson, Gage and Grady of Tulsa. Ersel was always known to these as Uncle JR.
A memorial graveside service will be held at Rosemound Cemetery near Medford, Oklahoma on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Medford. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.
