Cherokee-Eddie "Ed" DeVore passed from this life April 23, 2014 at the Cherokee Manor after a lengthy illness. Eddie was born in Anthony, Kansas July 10, 1944 to Murel and Grace "Riley" DeVore. He finished high school in 1962 at Newton, Kansas and then went to college at Northwestern State later graduating from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agriculture. He first taught at Holcomb, Kansas and after one year he went into the U. S. Army for three years. After his service in the Army, he went back to teaching at Newton High School. Then in 1980 he moved to Beloit, Kansas and taught there. He went to Kansas State University and received his Master's Degree. He retired from Beloit School in 2010. After teaching for forty years, he retired and moved back to Cherokee, Oklahoma.
Those surviving include two sons, Bradley DeVore and wife, Beth of Meridan, Mississippi and Douglas DeVore of Beloit, Kansas; two sisters, Donna Daub and husband, Sonny of Cherokee and Elaine Carroll and husband, Dennis of Newton, Kansas; three grandchildren, Gage, Shelby and Elizabeth; his mother, Grace DeVore of Cherokee; many nieces, nephews and many good friends.
Eddie was preceded in passing by his father, Murel DeVore and wife, Betsy DeVore.
Graveside service will be at The Halstead Cemetery, Halstead, Kansas (Hwy 50 and K89) on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served at Halstead.
Memorials may be made to Farmway Credit Union, P. O. Box 446, Beloit, Kansas 67420 where a memorial fund has been established for the purpose of providing scholarships for Agriculture/FFA Education.
