Earlene Maudie (Eubank) McCune
Earlene was born September 2, 1932 to Earl and Ruth Eubank in Orienta, Oklahoma and passed away August 4, 2020. She attended grade school in Orienta, through seventh grade then attended Fairview Schools, graduating in 1950. After graduation she worked for Ed Montgomery Law Firm. She met and married David Marion McCune and was wed May 27, 1951 in Fairview Christian Church. They made their home on the family farm southwest of Helena.
To this union was born four children, David Earl, Jacqueline (Jackie) Joy, Galen Craig, and Rick Lynn. Earlene was a devoted housewife and mother. When the last child was in school, she pursued a college education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She graduated in three years (Summa Cum Laude). While pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education she practice taught fourth grade in Helena-Goltry School. Upon graduation, she was
hired to fill the retiring fourth grade teacher position. She taught fourth grade in the same room she practice taught in for twenty-three years before retiring in 1995. After retirement, she and Marion traveled all over the USA including Branson three to four times each year.
Throughout Earlene’s life she was a devoted farmer’s wife, mother, teacher, wonderful cook and avid quilter. She made many quilts which her children cherish. She was a charter member of Jr. Homemakers Extension Club for over fifty years. She hosted family gatherings for many years with up to thirty-six family members present. She loved Oakwood Christian Church and volunteered many hours of her time there.
Survivors include: husband, David Marion and her children, David Earl and wife, Bea of Enid, Oklahoma, Jacqueline Joy and husband, Mitchel Willsie of Exeter, Rhode Island, Galen Craig and wife, JoAnn of Sharon, Oklahoma, Rick Lynn and wife, Barbara of Edmond. Oklahoma; foster son, Coy Hammons of Kellyville, Oklahoma. She has nineteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth Eubank; a sister, LaJean Minnick and husband, Glen, and foster brother, Max Eubank.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, August 7, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. in Oakwood Christian Church, 401 N. Oakwood, Enid, Oklahoma under the direction of Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery near Helena. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Oakwood Christian Church through the funeral home.
