On March 19, 2025, Dennis McCollum, aged 80, passed away peacefully in his home, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be forever cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him. Born on July 16, 1944, Dennis was a beacon of kindness and compassion, dedicating his life to the welfare of his family and his work.
Dennis's professional journey led him to become an esteemed oilfield draftsman, contributing his expertise at the Hess Corporation in Tulsa and later in Houston, Texas. He eventually returned to Oklahoma, finished his adult career at James Crabtree Correctional Facility where he retired in 2009.
Dennis was an alumnus of the Helena-Goltry School, from which he graduated in 1962,
Dennis found profound happiness in the companionship of his beautiful wife, Betty Schlup. The couple met in March 2003, and their love blossomed, culminating in their marriage on January 7, 2016. Together, they forged a connection filled with laughter, support, and unwavering love. Dennis was not only a devoted husband; he was also an amazing stepfather and step-grandfather, known for his unconditional love and support. His stepchildren—Doug Schlup (and Rebecca of Aline, OK), Chet Cotton of Enid, OK, and daughter, Leslie Drake (and Kenny of Bristow, OK), along with Nikki Woolsey (and Matt of Enid, OK)—will carry forward his legacy of love. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rosalie Wells of Newton, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Raymond and Flora McCollum, and his daughter, Raelynn McCullough, each of whom he carried in his heart through the challenges of life.
A memorial service celebrating Dennis's life will be held on March 29, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at New Covenant Fellowship in Goltry, Oklahoma. Friends and loved ones are invited to reflect on the remarkable spirit of a man who made the world a little brighter just by being in it.
