Dalton Jay Black

Dalton Jay Black, 24, of Hardtner, Kansas was born on April 28, 1995 in Wichita, Kansas and passed away peacefully on April 4, 2020 in Wichita, Kansas after a long battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He is the son of Jeff and Stacy Black and twin brother of Conner Black.  Dalton attended South Barber Schools and graduated with the class of 2014.

Dalton was a lifelong Hardtner resident and loved his small hometown, spending countless hours riding around Hardtner in his golf cart, then power chair, visiting with whoever stopped to chat. He loved celebrating the 4th of July in Hardtner and attending the rodeo during fair time. Another favorite pastime was working at the co-op during harvest, watching the wheat and semi-trucks line up and dump.  He enjoyed visiting with the drivers and co-op employees, and hanging out with Stoney. He also enjoyed riding out to the farm to watch the wheat being cut. He loved sitting in Bub and Granny's backyard (Bubba's Place) listening to Willie's Roadhouse and drinking Pepsi. He was an old soul who loved older country music and could name just about any artist.

Dalton had a vast knowledge of golf, football and Nascar history. He had an amazing memory. His knowledge of politics was profound, and he always had an opinion! He was a huge Nascar fan, with Chase Elliott being his favorite driver. He was able to attend several Nascar races and tour different Nascar race shops. He had a love/hate relationship with the Dallas Cowboys. He loved Westerns. He had a sweet smile. He enjoyed art classes with Jamie. Sundays were spent with his parents, brother, Bub, Granny, and great Uncle Bev eating lunch and watching Nascar, football or golf. He also loved spending time with his aunts and uncles and cousins, counting down the days until they were here. A highlight in his life was when he was a groomsman in his cousin Shelby's wedding.

Dalton was a friend to everyone, but especially enjoyed hanging out with best friend, Bayli Hyde. The list of things they did together is just too numerous to mention and their friendship was a great gift. Dalton had many fun memories of spending time with best friend, Landon Vogel and also friends, Monte and Kay Blunk. Dalton's friend, Tami Rose, was like a second mother to him, and he cherished their friendship. We can't forget Dalton's furry friend, Chico, who always kept him company.

Dalton loved attending FUSE Retreat every year with his long-time attendant and good friend, Sam Loughmiller. Dalton's friend, Byrum Bittel, attended both MDA Camp and FUSE Retreat with Dalton for many years, and they became good friends. All of his FUSE family was very special to him.

Dalton is preceded in death by grandparents, Andy and Billie Black; great-grandparents, John and Leona Logan, Dewey and lnez Black, Roy and Stella King, Elisha M. Barker, and Chet and Ruby Riggins.

Dalton is survived by his parents, Jeff and Stacy, and brother, Conner; grandparents, Wes and Barb King; uncle, Jay Black; aunt, Amie Sellers (Robert); cousins, Tyler Sellers, Shane Sellers, Shelby Hoffman (Eric), and Riane Rollins; many other cousins; great aunts; uncles, and friends.

Honorary casketbearers are:  Byrum Bittel, John Cook, Billy Cundiff, Taylor Donaldson, Daniel Hinde, Zach Jellison, Cody Kirkwood, Sam Loughmiller, Gary Mathes, Stoney Reif, Steve Roberts, Brent Shaffer, John Terwort, Landon Vogel.

There will be a private family burial for Dalton on Wednesday with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Viewing will be Tuesday, April 7, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m and Wednesday, April 8, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the FUSE Foundation through the funeral home.
