Dale Lee Straw
October 5, 1934 - December 9, 2021
Dale Straw was born October 5, 1934, west of Alva to Pete and Eliza Straw, one of ten children. He moved south of Ringwood when he was five. He lived there until he was fourteen years old, when he moved to the Texas Panhandle to work on an oil rig. They found out that he wasn’t sixteen, so they let him go. He worked for a farmer west of Alva until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1956. He met Opal Hubbell on July 27, 1956, and they were married July 30, 1956. Dale and Opal had two children: Ray and Arlene. They were married for 61 years until Opal passed away from a stroke. Dale loved fishing and helping people. His hobby was making lamps out of wood and giving them to people. He made approximately 450 lamps. He loved little kids and was always giving them rides on his wheelchair.
Dale’s survivors include son, Ray Straw and wife, Glenda of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Arlene Lasater of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Olen Straw of Wichita, Kansas, John Buchanan and wife, Treva of Newalla, Oklahoma, Ginger Freeby of Valley Center, Kansas, Jennifer Stockton and husband, Keith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Klein, and Betty French.
He is preceded in death by an infant brother, other siblings, Leona Posey, Ruth Brewer, Gilmer Straw, Pearl Maze, Kenneth Straw, and Bernice Koehn.
Funeral service for Dale will be Friday, December 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Helena United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Enid Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc. Memorials may be given to American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
