Corrine Avis (Meyer) Betty, age 94, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in Kiowa, Kansas. She was born on May 11, 1923 at the family farm home northeast of Burlington, Oklahoma, the seventh child born to Alvin Arthur Meyer and Anna (Ramseyer) Meyer .She cherished the memories of growing up on the farm with loving parents, three older brothers, three older sisters and a twin sister, Maxine Iris. She was affectionately called Cork or Corky by members of her family. When remembering life on the farm, she often said, “we worked hard but had lots of fun.”
She graduated from Burlington High School, where she played singles tennis and was a guard on the girls’ basketball team. Over the years, she treasured the friendships from her Burlington school days. An important part of her youth was attending the Apostolic Christian Church east of Burlington. She often remembered the faithful ministers and church families who shared God’s love with her.
After her graduation from Burlington High School, she helped her parents on the farm. Corrine was a telephone operator at Western Power and Light in Kiowa, Kansas for the two years before she was married. She and Harry Raymond Betty were married at the Kiowa Methodist Church parsonage on November 16, 1947 and they made their home in Kiowa. Their daughter, Janice Carrol, was born in 1949. Their marriage of 55 years was blessed with love and family. Corrine loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking and made exceptionally delicious cinnamon rolls.
During their marriage, Harry and Corrine enjoyed family vacations to many beautiful and interesting areas of our country and one vacation to Mexico. In 1955, they attended Harry's Third Armored Division Reunion, the first of many they would attend over the years.
Her grandchildren will always remember the special family times and fun they had at grandma and grandpa’s house. The great grandchildren, who called her great nana, will have wonderful memories, too. When times in life called for her to be a caregiver, she provided care with the greatest of love. Corrine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter and sister. She felt very blessed. She was a member of the Kiowa United Methodist Church. Her time of worship and fellowship with her church family meant so much to her. She felt great joy when praising God and giving thanks to her risen Savior through the hymns she loved.
