Kiowa, Kansas-Clinton Leroy Palmer was born February 2, 1940 northwest of Alva, the son of late Thomas Jay and Floy Sanders Palmer. This special day twins were born, Barbara Jean, six pounds, twelve ounces and Clinton Leroy, eight pounds, four ounces. Floy carried the babies ten months. They were welcomed by an older sister, Leona and brother, Ernest. Thomas Jay had to drive to town for more baby clothes. The twins were always dressed alike while growing up. Clinton always led a farm boy's life, plenty of animal toys - work to do. Clinton was very smart and always found ways to make money. He sold baby rabbits and ducks to T,G & Y and they sold them out of their front window. Clinton went to school in Cherokee for first through third grade. He then moved to the farm northwest of Alva. He attended Washington Elementary School for grades four through six and Horace Mann Jr. High School in Alva. He graduated from Alva High School in 1958. Clinton attended and graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University with a master's degree. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 - 1972, with a duty assignment in Vietnam. He moved around and ended up in Kiowa, Kansas. The last four years, Clinton made his home at Kiowa Manor, where he had excellent care. Clinton passed away at Kiowa District Hospital on March 13, 2016.
Clinton is survived by his twin sister, Barbara Jean; brother-in-law, Jim Case; special cousin, Shirley Sanders Ullom; several nieces; nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; one infant niece; sister, Leona Corbin; brother-in-law, Raymond; brother, Ernest Jay Palmer and sister-in-law, Tellena Palmer.
Graveside service for Clinton will be Friday, March 18, 2016 at Short Springs Cemetery on Highway 11 west of Cherokee, Oklahoma. Viewing will be before the service at the cemetery. Memorials may be given to the funeral home on behalf of the family.
