Kiowa-Graveside service for Charles "Chuck" Lenhart Helmley, 79, will be Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery. The family has requested no viewing.
Chuck was born on May 13, 1935 in Anthony, Kansas to Charles Helmley and Belle Webb Helmley and passed from this life on November 30, 2014 at Kiowa District Hospital. After high school Chuck served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. On February 15, 1958 in Kiowa he married Jane Smith. Chuck still continued being a civil servant as he served as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for thirty years. His dog followed him on his route each day. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Kiowa and the Jaycees. Chuck was a lifetime resident of the Kiowa area.
He is survived by his wife, Jane of Kiowa; three children, Sue Becker and husband, Scott of Kiowa, Jill Palmer and husband, Kevin of Kiowa and Mike Helmley and wife, Linda of Kiowa; three grandchildren, Ashlee and Clint Reed, Justin Helmley and Katie and Jay Hughes; two sisters, Bessie Colson of Lewisburg, Missouri and Iris Burrows of Belle Plaine, Kansas.
His parents preceded him in death.
Memorials may be given to Kiowa District Hospital through the funeral home.
