Charles David Smith,"Boats" 52, 06/06/1968-03/31/2021, resident of Enid, Oklahoma, formerly of Helena, Oklahoma, passed away on March 31, 2021. He was born in Dalhart, Texas to the late Joseph Fillmore Smith Sr. and the late Martha Marie Smith (Stonehocker). Raised by his mother Martha Smith in Helena, Charles graduated from Helena Goltry High School, Class of 1987. Charlie often told stories of his time at the Helena school system and was grateful for the positive impact the educators had on his life. Charles retired after 20 years of service in the United States Navy, a Boatswain's Mate Second Class Petty Officer, Surface Warfare, Air Warfare qualified, (BM2 SW/AW). Charles was known for his tales of travel and service all over the globe; from his travels in Italy to the Philippines to Japan, Charles loved to share his naval lore stories. If you knew Charles, even only for a minute, you knew a Navy story about Charlie. He served 17 combined years of Sea Duty, three years of Shore Duty, on all kinds of ships, from sea-going tugs to aircraft carriers, beginning his career in Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia, continuing to California, Japan, Italy, etc, and ending at Naval Base Kitsap, in Washington State. Charles was an avid man of faith, not afraid to espouse his love for his God. Charles attended multiple churches in Helena and Enid.
