Charles Schmitz

May 30, 1945 — April 25, 2022

Charles “Chuck” Schmitz, age 76, of Wakita, Oklahoma passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid.  He was born to parents, Frank and Irene Schmitz on May 30, 1945.

Chuck grew up and graduated high school in Medford, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and served in a medical capacity for four years. After completing his service, he met and married Mary Rezac of Caldwell, Kansas and the two moved to Wakita where they raised their two daughters.

Chuck was a well respected man of the community. In his younger years, he worked for several different businesses including Phillips 66, Community Health Center, and Adams Alloy. He spent the majority of his time working for Farmer’s Grain Co-Op where he served in many capacities. Even upon retirement, you could always find Chuck at the Co-Op helping out the guys.

Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dogs. He was a member of the local Jaycees, local Lion’s Club, and served in his church for many years. He loved watching football, and you could be sure that he was always watching his Sooners. Even more than OU, Chuck loved watching his grandson play sports and would share stories of his latest game if you gave him a chance. He was also blessed with three step-grandkids whom he adored and enjoyed spending time.

In Chuck’s recent years, he rekindled his love with his high school sweetheart, Claudia. The two married in September of 2021. He loved spending time with her: going to dinner, running errands, and watching football. The two shared a trust, love and happiness that was evident to everyone.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Irene Schmitz.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia Newman; sisters, Jeanette, Sharon (Bob) Wilson, Sherrel Copeland, Tammie (Brian) Anderson; daughters, Jesselyn Schmitz-Nakolo and Andrea (Jeff) Rogers, and four grandchildren, Ethan, Hunter, Laken, and Ella.
